Rudy Atwood -- Piano Dedication Concert
Here's what's inside the CD cover The date was November 6, 1962. Brethren High School in Paramount, California had just finished their fund raiser to purchase a new piano for the music department. Heading up the drive was their long time choral director, Carleda Hutton. The decision was made to purchase a new 7 foot Baldwin Grand Piano, for the total sum of $3,651 (in 1962 dollars). The dedication concert was planned and Rudy Atwood was selected to play this fine instrument. Rudy was no stranger to gospel music nor the great classics. He gained fame as the pianist on the international radio broadcast The Old Fashioned Revival Hour with Dr. Charles E. Fuller. His music was one of its most popular features. Rudy's unique, original piano stylings have inspired thousands of church pianists around the world. His recordings and piano arrangements are still popular today with young and old alike. This is also the earliest of Rudy's recorded concerts, pre-dating the others by about 26 years. It is the only one where he preaches a short sermon. Rudy's unique sense of humor comes through during his opening remarks and as he introduces some of his numbers. This rare live performance is the only known recording in which Rudy plays classical selections in addition to his usual sacred repertoire. Here is Rudy Atwood at his best during the height of his career, and a candid look into one of his seldom recorded performances. | |||||||||||||
