Even as a child, Paul Mickelson was attracted to the melodies of gospel music and the ethereal sound of string instruments. As he fondly recalled, "I wanted only two things in life: First, to travel with a great evangelist, and secondly, to be allowed the opportunity to record arrangements of beautiful Christian tunes I had running through my mind. I have been awarded both of these dreams by my Savior.

Paul began his outstanding career in the Christian music field playing the organ at the famed Angelus Temple in Los Angeles, CA. In 1950, he joined the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association and traveled throughout the world as its organist for the next seven years. And when RCA Victor approached him to arrange and conduct the first of his string albums, his second wish was granted and a series of Sacred Strings albums was born.

A multi-talented musician, Paul was a performer, a composer, an arranger, and a conductor. He was a true giant in the Christian Music arena for several decades. Over the years, Paul played and recorded on some of the world's greatest pipe organs. His unique musical blend of beautiful harmonies and skillful organ techniques brought him international acclaim as one of America's greatest gospel artists. His albums conducting such world-class orchestras as the London Concert Orchestra have become beloved classics. As the founder of Supreme Publications, Inc., he produced records of some of the most popular sacred artists of the twentieth century.
